Denver, CO, November 4, 2009 – As the Colfax Marathon gears up for its 5th annual race, race leadership is proud to announce that it will be doing so under a new banner: The Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon.
“We are thrilled to announce that Kaiser Permanente is our 2010 title sponsor for the Colfax Marathon! This strong partnership enables both organizations to carry out their missions of promoting health and fitness in the community,” said D Michaels, Colfax Marathon President and CEO.
Last year, Kaiser Permanente was a presenting sponsor of the marathon and also sponsored the Colfax Marathon Municipal Cup, awarding $22,000 to nonprofits within winning municipalities around Colorado. They also installed bike racks in municipalities that had the most citizens participating in the Colfax Marathon.
“Kaiser Permanente strives to be a true community partner to improve public health because we know health goes way beyond the exam room. To be truly healthy, people need to live in healthy communities. Being the title sponsor of the Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon encourages both the experienced and novice runners, as well as our children, to embrace an active lifestyle," explained Jandel Allen-Davis, MD, vice president, government and external relations, Kaiser Permanente Colorado. (Specific contract details have yet to be finalized and released).
In 2009, the Colfax Marathon set a record as 5,658 runners from all around the country participated in the marathon, half-marathon, or a leg of the relay course. Colfax Avenue was alive with runners, entertainers, and spectators along the route that traversed the cities of Aurora, Denver, and Lakewood, ultimately finishing at Denver’s historic City Park. The 2010 race is set for May 16th, beginning and ending in Denver’s historic City Park.
The 2010 Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon will again feature a full marathon, a half-marathon and the High Five Marathon Relay all of which will be held on the same USTAF certified course. Race week will also include: The Colorado Running Hall of Fame induction ceremony and reception, Mayors’ Breakfast--with Mayors from Aurora, Denver and Lakewood serving as honorary co-chairs, top-notch marathon expo and Colorado Kids Fun Run Day on Saturday, May 15th.
