Support group helps gastricbypass patients run Colfax Marathon

Kalasky used running to make a new life after gastric surgery, and now he uses what he has learned to help group members do the same. Several are running various Colfax Marathon events Sunday.
Three months ago, there were five in his group — called Overweight to Endurance Athletes —
and now there are 38.

Colfax Marathon offers $1,000 prize for setting new event record

Speedsters now have another reason to run the 2012 Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon or Half Marathon on Sunday, May 20. On Tuesday Executive Director Andrea Dowdy announced that any runner who sets a new event record will win $1,000. In 2011 two event records were set in the marathon. Nicholas Mockeridge of Northglen, Colo., finished in 2:34:27, besting the previous record by seven minutes. On the women’s side, Nicole Chyr of Denver, Colo., won the marathon in 2:59:01, a record by more than eight minutes.The half marathon records were set in 2007, when Benson Cheruiyot finished in 1:08:59 and Naomi Wangui crossed the line in 1:20:21.

Denver kids living in motels have fun, get help at art center

The kids are in the midst of training for the Fun Mile in the upcoming Colfax Marathon... They're part of theColfax Community Network, an agency in Aurora that helps families who live in motelsas a temporary solution to homelessness. Across metro Denver,between 1,000 and 2,000 people battling poverty live in motels, many along Colfax Avenue.

The 2012 Colorado Running Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held at the Denver Athletic Club on Thursday evening, April 19. Of the six inductees, three had roots in trail and mountain running.
The first inductee of the evening was Danelle Ballengee, four-time member of the U.S. Mountain Running Team, skymarathon champion and winner of the 1996 Everest SkyMarathon in Tibet, four-time winner of the Pikes Peak Marathon, and winner of more than 100 snowshoe races. Friend and journalist Brian Metzler said of Ballengee, “Her athletic resume looks like something you’d see on the back of a Wheaties box. She’s earned six U.S. athlete of the year awards in four different endurance sports: adventure racing, duathlon, mountain running, and triathlon. She’s as real and as rugged as they come.”
