We love this site: Run Colo.com, and not just because they analyzed the 2008 Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon race times and made it official: the 2008 course was the fastest course.

"The average finish time was about nine minutes faster and the median finish time was almost 15 minutes faster!"

And congratulations to the 99 ambitious folks who ran the Colorado Colfax Half-Marathon, and then th ...

Here's a social networking site for endurance runners that we think is pretty cool: Athlinks.

As Bob Findlay at the Rocky Mountain News describes it:

"I'm not much into social networking on the Internet - primarily, I confess, because I'm an old happily married man with little need for the offerings of Facebook, MySpace and the like. But I was intrigued when I recently ran across Athlinks, a networking site for endurance athletes.

I plugged my name into its search function and it immediately listed my race results for ...

Taj Moore has only lived in Denver for a year, but he's already fallen in love.
"I fell in love with Colfax immediately," said Moore.

Even though the object of his affection is a street, it has a complexity of character that rivals any human's.

"There's so many dimensions to what makes the Colfax experience," he said.

Spend any evening on Colfax Avenue and it's easy to see those dimensions in action. From rowdy concert-goers to sophisticated art connoisseurs, Colfax attracts them all.

It's that diversity that Moore finds alluring.

"Colfax is a great mixing place - you have such a diversity of people. You find a lot of the romanticism of what people think A ...

The marathon is a powerful metaphor for the challenges of life: running a nearly impossible distance of 26.2 miles, pushing yourself mentally and physically to the limit.

The Denver Rescue Mission team of nearly 40 men are living proof of this. They will run the Colfax Marathon on Sunday and

27 students from Kunsberg Elementary School have reached the final 25.2 Marathon Miler goal and will run the final Marathon Mile this Saturday at City Park.

But these are no ordinary kids.

Children attend Kunsberg -- which is part of National Jewish -- as an alternative to their home schools due to  medical issues which have caused them to miss a significant amount of school in the past.

The majority of the students have chronic asthma (93%), as well as other health impairments including: sickle cell anemia; diabetes; lupus; heart ailments; juvenile rheumatoid arthritis; and other respiratory and immunological disorders.

The school currently has 69 students ages 5-14 in 6 classrooms from Kindergarten through 8th grade. National Jewish welc ...

So many remarkable runners!

The music director for the Central City Opera plans to run the Colfax Half Marathon Sunday after making a life changing decision to go from husky to thin.

John Baril, 46, has conducted more than 100 performances in his 16 years with the opera.

But over the last 18 months, he's achieved something that is perhaps more impressive.

"I've lost about 62 ponds now," Baril said.

Westy 101 is running the Colfax marathon for the second time this year -- and defending their 2007 Municipal Cup title.

The five members of the team represent five different departments at the City of Westminster. Dave Cotton is from the Information Technologies department, John Hall represents the Community Development department, Sean Layfield is from the Parks, Recreation and Libraries department, Aric Otzelberger is from the City Manager's Office and Sam Trevino represents the Finance department.

Sam says:

"We ran this race as a team last year on a challenge by the Westminster City Council in the name of City Spirit. Last year's win was a pleasant surprise. We obviously would love to bring the Municipal Cup home to the City Councilor's and the citizens of Westminster again. The first year's Municipal Cup winning team, Aurora Fire 1290, issued a friendly challenge after last ye ...

20% of all pregnancies in the United States will be diagnosed with some type of fetal distress syndrome, which can cause birth defects, premature birth, or loss of the fetus. Gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia, two common pregnancy problems, are major causes of fetal distress syndrome.

30-40% of those problems can be eliminated simply by moms remaining healthy during their pregnancies.

Our Charity Partner, Fetal Hope Foundation, tries to help raise awareness among doctors and mothers about how to prevent and treat the problems arising from fetal distress syndrome -- and that includes raising awareness of childhood obesity, the focus of Read More »

They're also wondering about the best places to get a margarita.

Our two cents: after the marathon, head over to Mezcal on Colfax and try a margarita made with one of their 100 varieties of tequila.

I am looking for a relay team to join. I was signed up to run the half but my training partner is pregnant now and can't run it with me! I'd rather run a shorter distance at this point, hence looking for a team.  I think I'm in shape to run a good 10k or 12k if anyone has those spots open.

If your team has an open spot, I'd really love to jump in. Please email me at jskelty@gmail.com

Two years ago, on May 4, Keith Ashby underwent a kidney transplant. He’d been born with one kidney, and years of high blood pressure took their toll, causing his remaining kidney to fail.

Kidneys are one organ that a living donor can provide, and lead an active, healthy life afterwards. Most people awaiting a kidney transplant go to family members first. But there’s a 6-point match system, and even blood siblings rarely match.

Keith was on “The List” for only a few months, when his 26 year old step-son, Johnny, offered to see if he was a match. He was. A few weeks later, Keith’s wife waited while her husband and son were wheeled into surgery. Doctors were amazed at how closely the two ma ...

More students in Denver public schools drop out than graduate.

This crisis is something that Colorado Youth for a Change hopes to reverse.

They do it by finding out-of-school youth, encouraging them to return to school, assisting them to find a school that is a good fit, and then helping them transition back to school.  CYC also brings community volunteers into 9th grade classrooms to intervene with potential high school dropouts and creates new alternative schools for returning dropouts.

Colorado Youth for a Change is motivated to do something about it, and that includes recruiting runners -- nearly 20 so far -- and raising money. A lot of money -- $8,605 as of today.

An ...

THE DENVER DASHERS
Division: Relay – Municipal Cup

This is the third year that The Denver Dashers are competing in the Relay for the Municipal Cup, and they are out to have some fun.

We asked team member Lauri Dannemiller, who is the Executive Director for Denver City Council, how the training was going.
A: Oh, are we supposed to train? I run around Sloan’s Lake a few times a week and hope that’s enough to prevent me from collapsing on the day of the event.

Q: Who's your biggest competition?
A:The runner in front of me on race day.

Q: What's your favorite thi
