The 2008 Colfax Marathon is ready to roll on Sunday, May 18, 2008  with a brand new, screaming fast course. Last year's runners spoke, and we listened.

An anticipated 6,000 runners will compete along Colorado's most colorful street in the full marathon (26.2 miles), the half-marathon (13.1 miles) or a relay team comprised of 5 members.

"We listened to last year's runners and made some significant changes. We've got a brand new, fast course," said Dave Walstrom, President of the Colfax Marathon Partnership, Inc. "This race is a celebration of the vibrant Colfax community."

• It’s a brand new course! With expert help from a Runners Advisory Group, the new course starts and finishes in Denver's City Park. The course is USATF certified and a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

• No more hard hills, no net elevation gain, more shade, and great neighborhood diversity. And yes, more porta-potties!

• The 26.2 mile course has a single start/finish in City Park. The course heads west on vibrant Colfax out to Simms Boulevard. Runners loop back through downtown Denver, east on Colfax to the FitzSimmons Anschutz campus, and finish back in City Park.

Re: The Colfax Marathon is ready to roll

Although I understand the importance of Marathons like this and the Denver Marathon, I hope the runners and the people who organize this and other events like this understand how frustrating and inconvenient this race is for the people who live in the area. Normally it takes me 7 minutes to get to work. Whenever these marathons take place it takes me 30-45 minutes to get to work. I appreciate the fact that people want to help, but why the hell does my day need to be blown out of proportion in order for them to feel good about themselves? During the Denver Marathon because everything was shut down, I was stuck on a street for 30 minutes wasting gas, and lets remember how expensive that is, and all I was able to do was get one block away from my house. After all that I had to walk to work in the rain. Can’t you people just write a check and be done with it?

Hi Need to get to work,
We do understand that large events like this can inconvenience neighbors. We work with the cities of Aurora, Denver and Lakewood to keep our runners safe, and re-open the streets to traffic as soon as possible. This year you'll be able to plan ahead. We'll be publishing street closure information here, so you can plan an alternate route or even an alternate transportation plan.
