The marathon is a powerful metaphor for the challenges of life: running a nearly impossible distance of 26.2 miles, pushing yourself mentally and physically to the limit.

The Denver Rescue Mission team of nearly 40 men are living proof of this. They will run the Colfax Marathon on Sunday and

Watch for all these runners on the course. If you've ever been to a race where the Denver Rescue Mission guys are crossing the finish line, one by one, you know how truly inspirational they are.

Re: Marathon as a metaphor for life

I live near Havana and Colfax and, as someone who is training with the Leukemia Society's Team in Training Program to run a marathon, myself, I just had to go out and watch the runners as they raced by. I heard the sirens leading the charge and ran down the street to see the first of the runners.

The first thing I noticed were all the green shirts that said, "Denver Rescue Mission". Without knowing anything more, I knew right away who these men were and what was their goal. My own mother was homeless for 20 years (our family successfully got her off the street and she lived with us for seven years before she passed away).

So your efforts and your unspoken stories spoke volumes to me and brought tears to my eyes.

God bless you all, you brought so much good into my life today!
