City Council Celebrates Colfax

Jack Kerouac once said that Colfax was the "wickedest street in America."

In 2008, how things have changed.

Colfax Avenue, with roots as a wagon trail, is undergoing another evolution and revitalization, and the Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon is a big part of it.

At tonight's Denver City Council meeting, a proclamation was issued in celebration of the third annual Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon. Members of charity partners, the AIR Foundation, Denver Kids, The Denver Rescue Mission, Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Denver, Threshold Passages, and Warren Village were all in attendance, to attest to the tremendous impact of the marathon's first Charity Partners program.

Runners from the Denver Rescue Mission, who trained and completed the marathon last year were an inspiration to many runners.

"There is something in this race for everyone," said Councilman Garcia, co-sponsor of the proclamation.

Councilwoman Jeanne Robb gave a big thank you to all the city workers who make this great race possible, including the department of public works, the traffic planners, and the police department.

She also urged Democratic National Convention volunteers to volunteer to be one of the 1500 needed for the race.

Councilwoman Boigon, who noted the Council's commitment to the redevelopment of Colfax Avenue, said, "The morale, the visibility to the wonderful neighborhoods and the businesses developing is unmatched."

Councilwoman Johnson noted the resurgence of businesses along Colfax, including the Tattered Cover and the new candy shop opening on Capitol Hill, Rockwood Fine Candies.
