General Relay Team Information
A. Overview
There are a variety of ways you can manage your team for ease and simplicity. Two areas are always a challenge and this is the best solution for:
1.  Sportag timing chip/runner bib pickup:
a. Each individual relay team member must pickup their own Sportag timing chip and bib number at the Marathon Village Expo on either Friday (noon-7pm) or Saturday (9am-5pm) on the east side of the big lake (Ferril Lake) in Denver’s City park (immediately west of the Museum of Nature and Science).

b. Each team will have a unique team number printed on their team bibs and each bib will be color-coded for each leg (Leg 1, the first leg running a 10K will have a yellow background, Leg 2, the second leg running a 5K will have an orange background, Leg 3 running a 10K will have a blue background, Leg 4 running a 5K will have a salmon/peach background and Leg 5 running a 12K will have a green background).

c. If circumstances prevent an individual team member from picking up their bib/chip, they may have a friend/relative pick ip up with a note or ID permitting them to do so during EXPO hours.

d. Team Captains or designated team representatives MAY NOT pick up all bib/chips for a team, period. NO EXCEPTIONS.

e. A team member failing to return their timing chip at the finish area of their relay leg will result in the TEAM Captain being charged $30 for each missing Sportag timing chip.

B. Parking Instructions
As a matter of best practices, it is best to have each individual team member park in the designated parking area for their particular leg. Walking to and from or if necessary, bus transport will provide shuttle to or from certain areas and exchange zones as detailed below. Also, make sure you are parked by 5am to avoid a late start.

Legs 2, 3, 4 and 5 should drive to parking (locations noted below) approaching from the north driving south. The easiest reference point is to drive to I-70 and go east or west to the appropriate north/south street.  DO NOT attempt to drive on Colfax or approach from the south driving north across Colfax since Colfax will be closed to crossing traffic.

Creatively, some teams have chosen to have a designated “Team Driver and Team Vehicle” deliver team members to each relay exchange zone and then provide transportation back to those respective drop off areas. If that becomes a team’s plan, it is best to pick-up or drop the team member off adjacent to the parking areas for the respective legs of the relay (noted below).


Shuttles: There will be a shuttle to transport runners between City Park and St. Anthony's parking lots. There will also be shuttles to transport runners between St. Anthony's and the parking lots at Teller and Garrison. 

1. Parking and transportation for Leg 1 (Lead leg)
a. If you are running the first leg (Leg 1: 10K), park at either the Denver Zoo or the Museum of Nature and Science parking lots and walk to start line of Full and Half Marathon. Check your personal bag at bag check next to the start area and it will be waiting for you when you’re shuttled back after finishing your leg. Portapotties will be in a line designating Men or Women prior to arriving at the Bag Check Tent.

b. You must have your Sportag timing chip zip-tied or tied to your shoe (no other chip location is acceptable and the bib must be pinned to your front displaying the correct color-yellow of your leg).

c. You will “hand tag” your relay team member AFTER you cross under the Relay Exchange Zone banner and head out to run your leg (DO NOT hand tag your team member before you cross under the banner or you will be disqualified).

d. When you complete your leg, untie or take your Sportag Timing Chip off your shoe and turn in to the volunteers collecting the timing chip (remember, if you fail to turn in your chip, your team captain will be charged $30).
 
e. Walk (approximately 2 blocks) to the St Anthony’s Hospital parking lots at 16th and Perry. A shuttle bus will periodically rotate with passengers back to parking at Zoo/Museum at Denver’s City Park (if your team has a “Team Driver and Team Vehicle”, this is also where they should pick you up. 

2. Parking and transportation for Leg 2 (Second leg)
a. If you are running the second leg (Leg 2: 5K), park at St Anthony’s Hospital parking lots at 16th and Perry. Portapotties will be positioned in all four corners of the parking lot. To drive to parking, plan to arrive at least one hour prior to the time you anticipate your team member will arrive at your relay exchange zone.

b. There are several ways to get to St Anthony’s. Take I-70 east or west to Federal, then south on Federal to 17th. Go west on Federal to Perry. Turn south on Perry to 16th and turn west to the parking entrance.


c. Walk two blocks to south to Colfax and Quitman. You must have your Sportag timing chip zip-tied or tied to your shoe (no other chip location is acceptable and the bib must be pinned to your front displaying the correct color-orange of your leg). Portapotties will also be in the Exchange Zone area.

d. You will “hand tag” your relay team member AFTER they cross under the Relay Exchange Zone banner and head out to run your leg (DO NOT run back toward your approaching team member or you will be disqualified).

e. When you complete your leg, untie or take your Sportag Timing Chip off your shoe and turn in to the volunteers collecting the timing chip (remember, if you fail to turn in your chip, your team captain will be charged $30).

f. Walk approximately one block to Garrison and Colfax (west) and _ block north to meet the collection point for shuttle bus pick-up.  A shuttle bus will periodically rotate with passengers back to parking at St Anthony’s Hospital parking lots (if your team has a “Team Driver and Team Vehicle”, they can pick you up at Garrison and Colfax or await you at St Anthony’s). 

3.  Parking and transportation for Leg 3 (Third leg)
a. If you are running the third leg (Leg 3: 10K), park at Wal Mart’s eastmost parking lots at Teller and Colfax. Portapotties will be positioned in the parking lot. To drive to parking, plan to arrive at least one hour prior to the time you anticipate your team member will arrive at your relay exchange zone.

b. There are several ways to get to Wal Mart. Take I-70 east or west to Wadsworth, then south on Wadsworth to W. 19th Ave. Go east on 19th to Teller. Turn south on Teller to the parking entrance. Leave your gear bag in your vehicle.

c. Plan enough time to walk to your exchange zone (approximately 1 mile to the west, a 15-20 minute journey) located at Garrison and Colfax. You must have your Sportag timing chip zip-tied or tied to your shoe (no other chip location is acceptable and the bib must be pinned to your front displaying the correct color-salmon/peach of your leg). Portapotties will also be in the Exchange Zone area.

d. You will “hand tag” your relay team member AFTER they cross under the Relay Exchange Zone banner and head out to run your leg (DO NOT run back toward your approaching team member or you will be disqualified).


e. When you complete your leg, untie or take your Sportag Timing Chip off your shoe and turn in to the volunteers collecting the timing chip (remember, if you fail to turn in your chip, your team captain will be charged $30).

f. You will be running your leg to your parking area at the 25K Relay Exchange Zone (if your team has a “Team Driver and Team Vehicle”, they can pick you up at Wal Mart’s parking lot).


4. Parking and transportation for Leg 4 (Fourth leg)
a. If you are running the fourth leg (Leg 4: 5K), park at Wal Mart’s eastmost parking lots at Teller and Colfax. Portapotties will be positioned in the parking lot. To drive to parking, plan to arrive at least one hour prior to the time you anticipate your team member will arrive at your relay exchange zone.

b. There are several ways to get to Wal Mart. Take I-70 east or west to Wadsworth, then south on Wadsworth to W. 19th Ave. Go east on 19th to Teller. Turn south on Teller to the parking entrance. Leave your gear bag in your vehicle.

c. Plan enough time to walk to your exchange zone (approximately 200 meters to the east, a 5 minute journey) located at Garrison and Colfax. You must have your Sportag timing chip zip-tied or tied to your shoe (no other chip location is acceptable and the bib must be pinned to your front displaying the correct color-blue of your leg). Portapotties will also be in the Exchange Zone area.

d. You will “hand tag” your relay team member AFTER they cross under the Relay Exchange Zone banner and head out to run your leg (DO NOT run back toward your approaching team member or you will be disqualified).

e. When you complete your leg, untie or take your Sportag Timing Chip off your shoe and turn in to the volunteers collecting the timing chip (remember, if you fail to turn in your chip, your team captain will be charged $30).

f. You will be running your leg to the 30K Relay Exchange Zone (if your team has a “Team Driver and Team Vehicle”, they can pick you up at Wal Mart’s parking lot or at St Anthony’s Hospital Relay Exchange Zone parking area (a 3/4 of a mile walk to the south around the edge of Sloans Lake, crossing 17th and then south on Perry to 16th and Perry). In either case, you will walk to the St Anthony’s parking area to meet the shuttle bus that will be revolving between the St Anthony’s parking area and the Wal Mart parking area.


5. Parking and transportation for Leg 5 (Fifth and final leg)
a. If you are running the fifth leg (Leg 5: 12K), park at St Anthony’s Hospital parking lots at 16th and Perry. Portapotties will be positioned in all four corners of the parking lot. To drive to parking, plan to arrive at least one hour prior to the time you anticipate your team member will arrive at your relay exchange zone.

b. There are several ways to get to St Anthony’s. Take I-70 east or west to Federal, then south on Federal to 17th. Go west on Federal to Perry. Turn south on Perry to 16th and turn west to the parking entrance.

c. Plan enough time to walk to your exchange zone (approximately 3/4 mile to the northeast, a 10-15 minute journey) located on the northeastern edge of Sloans Lake at 20th and Stuart. You must have your Sportag timing chip zip-tied or tied to your shoe (no other chip location is acceptable and the bib must be pinned to your front displaying the correct color-green of your leg). Portapotties will also be in the Exchange Zone area.

d. You will “hand tag” your relay team member AFTER they cross under the Relay Exchange Zone banner and head out to run your leg (DO NOT run back toward your approaching team member or you will be disqualified).

e. When you complete your leg, untie or take your Sportag Timing Chip off your shoe and turn in to the volunteers collecting the timing chip (remember, if you fail to turn in your chip, your team captain will be charged $30).


f. You will be running your leg to the official marathon finish line at Denver’s City Park (if your team has a “Team Driver and Team Vehicle”, they can pick you up at the Zoo or Museum of Nature and Science parking lot). Shuttle buses will also circulate back to St Anthony’s Hospital parking lots periodically until 1pm when the lots are officially closed.
